SWIM is a pop-rock band originating from Stony Brook, New York. As hometown friends, the members of SWIM have taken their time to develop a refreshing, pop-rock sound that is as authentic as it is radio-ready. SWIM’s fan base spans from Long Island to countries all around the world.
In 2018, SWIM released Heartbeat Connection, a single ready to be the song of the summer. Describing the intangible connection between long-distance lovers, Heartbeat Connection shines with catchy hooks and a chorus listeners will be singing all day. Heartbeat Connection was originally written when the band secluded themselves in a cabin in Rangeley, Maine strictly to write music. The simple idea would evolve over the coming months as it was recorded in the studio, and the band released the polished track on April 27th, 2018. Heartbeat Connection gives the first taste of the band’s updated sound and songwriting style. The song has a special meaning for the band members who often deal with their own long-distance struggles.
SWIM's second single, The Chase, was written by all members of the band, slowly coming together section-by-section. The song speaks to the indescribable feeling we all experience in the early stages of a romance, highlighting the rush that accompanies “the chase” which usually culminates in the start of a relationship. However, McCaffrey highlights uncertainty and self-doubt instead, leaving it up to the listener to determine what ultimately happens between the narrator and the elusive “Kathleen.” What started as a simple chord progression would be recorded and polished from late 2018 into early 2019. The Chase was released on April 5th, 2019 after being self-produced, mixed, and mastered at ZIN Records in Calverton, NY.
SWIM’s third single, Pass By, was originally written as a piano ballad by Morelli in response to the lyrical message asserted by McCaffrey in The Chase. The song is about holding out for that perfect someone you’re destined to find, rather than making the most of what you have instead of romanticizing the pursuit of someone like that. When the band entered the studio to finish the song, with the help of engineer and friend Nick Zinnanti, they elected to transform the song into a more upbeat pop anthem. The band has since recorded a live rendition of the song’s original arrangement to pay homage to its roots, with plans to release it in 2020.
SWIM is: Dan McCaffrey(vocals), Nick Riviezzo (guitar), Pat Morelli (bass, keyboards) and Brian D'Angio (drums). The band draws influence from Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Strokes, The Kooks, The Lumineers, Neon Trees, Harry Styles, and Coldplay. SWIM is currently playing shows in support of their most recent releases as they begin to conceptualize and record their first full-length album.
